Luke's Village
History and Description
St. Luke’s Village history begins with the
generosity of two special ladies. In 1979,
Miss Hazel Sutter, a former Sunday school
student at St. Luke’s Church, passed away
leaving her house in Far Hills to the church.
In her will she recalled fond memories of
her days at St. Luke’s Church. In 1983, Miss
Ethel Stantial, a loyal and devoted parishioner
of St. Luke’s Church and a lifetime resident
of Gladstone, passed away and willed her home
and property to St. Luke’s Church.
It was decided to sell the Sutter home and
invest the proceeds in the Stantial home and
property. The dream was to build a warm, caring
and affordable village for those in later
life. Because of the generosity of these two
wonderful ladies, the dream became a reality
and St. Luke’s Village was created.
St. Luke’s Village
St. Luke’s Village is now independent of St.
Luke’s Church and has become a unique concept
of living in the quaint town of Gladstone.
The goal was to create an atmosphere where
a group of individuals will have the dignity
of their own dwelling as well as the company
of their fellow residents.
St. Luke's Village
St. Luke’s Village is a quiet community of
one-bedroom apartments located on Main Street
in Gladstone directly across from St. Luke’s
Episcopal Church. The apartments are 600 square
feet in size with laundry and kitchen facilities
in each. A small courtyard separates the four
front apartments from the four rear apartments.
In addition there is a common house, the first
floor of which is used as a gathering and
meeting place. The second floor has a ninth
apartment. The village also has its own private,
off street, parking area.
